Background of EIA Registration and Handling within the GeoEnviron System
The GeoEnviron information system was implemented in Sarawak to support the Urban Management System (UEMS), especially in Kuching. With the establishment of a common platform between various government agencies, the management of environmental data will prove more systematic and effective for Sarawak’s furture development plans. At present, the GeoEnviron system connects seven agencies involved in environmental management i.e. NREB, DBKU, MBKS, DID, SRB, KWB and MPP.
Main objectives of the GeoEnviron information system for EIA registration and handling
- To utilise the capability of the GeoEnviron information system in handling EIA registrations
- To register all EIA pertinent data in the GeoEnviron information system. This will be supported with GIS maps of all EIA sites
- To establish an approval process handling system allowing follow-ups on the status of the process from the applications received right up to the issuance of approval
- To register monitoring results and reports, and follow up on cases of non-compliance
Benefits of the GeoEnviron information system for EIA registration and handling
- Able to assist authorities with jurisdiction over EIA processes in determining requirements on the ground for monitoring and compliance
- 2. Efficient retrieval of EIA case information (baseline including monitoring data)
- Instant monitoring of progress and status of EIA. With the GeoEnviron information system, the relevant authorities can set a timeline for each step for efficient follow-up
Eco-Ideal Systems, a subsidiary company of Eco-Ideal Consulting Sdn. Bhd. is the official distributor of the GeoEnviron information system.
